Aurora History: The first council meeting was held on January 19, 1863. The east side of Yonge Street which was then Whitchurch Township merged with the west side which was part of King Township. Charles Doan, Seth Ashton, Robert Boyd, James Holliday and George Stephenson were elected to the council. They appointed Charles Doan, the postmaster and leading merchant, as reeve to lead the village he had helped name nine years before.
The first clerk appointed by council was Charles York, the foreman at the cooperage factory. He just edged out J.E. McNally the potash maker three votes to two.

One of the first items of business allowed for the reeve to spend no more than five dollars on a village seal. "To the best of anyone's knowledge, the pattern shown was the Aurora crest, showing a rising sun over the hills of Whitchurch, and a Fleury plow, for the industry that was making the village prosper."
Gradually, the Town grew. As the trees were cut and homes were built, one property was never built upon. This field became Mosley Park, now known as Town Park, one of the many parks scattered throughout the town today.
